Domestos was first produced in 1929 by Wilfrid Augustine Handley (1901 - 1975), a dentist from Heaton, Newcastle upon Tyne in the North East of England, and sold door -to-door by salesmen who refilled stoneware jars bought by customers.In 1961 the company was acquired by Lever Brothers.
